Willow Basket Workshop

Join us for a full day workshop and learn to make a willow basket!

Description: Participants will make a 10" x 4" (approximately) willow frame basket using a variety of cultivated basket willows. We will discuss some basics of willow basketry while acknowledging the accessibility of the craft, the materials, the history of the land we are gathered upon, and the current cultural environment we practice this craft within.

Experience Level: All levels are welcome. No experience required. Average to moderate hand strength is needed for this class. It will likely not be a good fit for anyone with hand sensitivities including hand injuries or arthritis.

Capacity: There will be a maximum of 10 participants for this workshop.

Please bring: a sharp pair of gardening shears if you have one.  Otherwise, tools will be provided by the instructor.  We'll take a lunch break from 1:00-2:00PM.  Please bring your own lunch, snacks, and water.  

Age limit: Adults only

Cost: This workshop has three types of tickets:

--> Sponsor Tickets for $175 which include all materials and help support accessibility to workshops like this to people of the global majority (PGM) from racialized communities. 

--> Equity Tickets at a pay-what-you-can price ($0-$100) for people of the global majority from racialized communities.

About the Instructor: Frea Forager (pronounced FREE-yuh; she/they) helps people tap into the potent medicine of their own creativity and deepen their connection to the natural world through earth crafts. She is committed to fostering an equitable and liberatory approach to craft work.  Her teaching will thoughtfully explore how craft practices, education, and materials are connected to broader social issues such as historical and ongoing injustices, including land appropriation, indigenous displacement, and systemic inequality. Refunds:
Refunds minus a $15 processing fee are available up to two weeks before event.  After that, a credit will be issued for a basket purchase or future workshop.
